The unspeakable (S.F. Foudroyante) and the split second chronograph

Howdy folks,

a question raised several times is regarding the movement of these watches.

The information is was given so far (we are on the track of some detailed information):

The S.F. calibre GP 8298 as well as the rattrapante calibre 8290 both are based on a Valjoux 7750 base, highly modified with exclusive changes by GP.

Ok, before someone gets the wrong idea some standard base ebauche will pop out of the case:
The Valjoux 7750 certainly is one of the best automatic chronographs movements. It was introduced in 1972 (if i recall correctly) and constructed by no other than Edmond Capt (former technical director of Frederic Piguet and Nouvelle Lemania) who some regard as one of the 20 best watchmakers alive. It?s a very well designed, there?s hardly anything to improve. Therefore it?s a perfect base even for highly (or Grande) complicated watches.

And what GP does with it to, simply results in a new movement.

Don?t believe in this?

Ok, here?s the plate for the 8020 chronograph movement:

That one really doesn?t look very ETA, isn?t it?

Hi, i?m sorry not to have any other pictures (now). Yes, the jumping second does have a special mechanism and an additional barrel (which is connected with the main barrel). Greetings from germany, Peter

Hi Bill, Although I admit that I am intrigued by the "lightning seconds" mechanism, it would really be a little silly for me to try to take one apart at this point in my schooling. I am almost ready to tackle regular old chronographs without reservations ...

If you're going to have....

a watchmaking "Growth Experience" I'd rather it not be on one of my watches! But once you have the skills, and supposing I still have the watch, the offer still stands. BTW, is there another installment in your "Day at Watch School" series coming soon? Bi...
