Girard-Perregaux – MIMO Regulator

Jun 13, 2014,09:59 AM

Friends,

As some of you may know, Girard-Perregaux and MIMO (Manufacture Internationale de Montres Or) has a shared history.

MIMO was founded in 1889 by Otto Graef, a watchmaker of German origins. In 1928 he bought up the capital stock of Girard-Perregaux.

During the following years, MIMO was focusing on the European market while the GP brand was promoted in Asia, North- and South America.

In 1945 this letter came: The decision to focus mainly on the GP brand.

So, after a bit of history… Let’s have a look at a “piece of history”!

A MIMO Centric Regulator.

An unusual way to tell time, hours are on the upper sub dial, minutes on the lower and the red second hand uses the full dial.

This piece I had the chance to see some time ago is NOS or close to NOS.

I never seen this kind of dial on a MIMO regulator before.

Original strap and buckle…

Today some people pay mega bucks to have a watch tell time this way (no brand mentioned)…

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to see the movement.

Big thank you, to the lucky owner and for letting me share this one here with all of you.

smile

What can I say; Girard-Perregaux has long and rich history and I love to explore it!

Each day I learn something new. Hope you will join me here in my journey deeper into the GP brand.

smile

Best

Blomman

A vintage GP Regulator I had eyed a few times but always shied away. Most I have seen for sale are of questionable background with likely new dials assembled in South America. Very difficult to check authenticity. But I'm sure one day, an opportunity will...

You and me both...

But I never saw, until now, one I would trust to jump on... This one is stunning, if I have a chance, I will take a wrist shot next time and possible a movement shot. As for your question... No, sorry... I would not. Best, CC Blomman

agreed!

totally agree on the difficulty verifying such a piece. The below was recently for sale in Germany, but I did a bit of research and I was able to track this down to an Argentinian origin, most certainly a reprinted dial, hence I stayed away. I wonder if t...

I don't have any documents .... Yet!

Orologio assolutamente fantastico! RARO ....... Complimenti! Come giustamente ha scritto CC è molto difficile trovare regolatori sicuramente GP . Ho un regolatore GP degli anni 40, monta un movimento a 15 J cal 28 GP. Non conosco questo movimento e non so...

According to my records...

Ciao Giuseppe, The GP Cal 28 is a 13 Lignes movement based on FHF Cal 200. Used by Girard-Perregaux between 1943-1944. I can't read the reference in your photo, but if you give me the reference, I can ask the Manufacture for more details. Would you please...

Grazie mille

I will check with the Manufacture....

If they have any information on this watch. Giuseppe, would you mind sharing a pic of the dial with us? Best Blomman

Ciao Giuseppe ...

Very similar to the MIMO!

I heard back from the Manufacture, but they didn't have any additional info on this watch than I already wrote in my previous post, sorry. Your dial looks great - I need to find one for me one day... Best Blomman
