KIS - " Keep it Simple ".. A fresh look on a nice Trio

Jul 29, 2015,08:53 AM

Friends, several of you here have realized among other things,
my preference for pure, balanced and unobtrusive time-pieces..

We all got to know, how much the 60ies were high times for
these types of watches with their simple, classical lines,
and often elegant appeal.

So I just thought to share three of my types of tic-tacs, from the
end 50ies & 60ies, which fulfill these parameters & criteria.

Find below, without much further ado, first a JLC- Duo, which are
declared favs of mine, in that "category":

Left: JLC 1901, right: E 329

Both from the 60ies: the lovely 1901, Cal 818, a fine example of
a slim, low profile 2-hand piece, hand wound, with the " hidden" twist,
that it comes in WG, giving it a special note, just revealed to the owner.

On the right a fine 3-hand example, JLC E 329 with the little "goodie",
providing an alternate, colored date window: even dates - white on black &
uneven - black on white, also a classic beautiful case, IMO..

This 1901 is one of my preferred going-out watches, "reduced" to the
essence of time keeping.

Lastly, I would like to share a similiar puristic," under the radar" reference,
from my second collecting focus, Rolex:

- it is a very classical, white dialled, no date version of the Ref. 6556,
cal 1040, Chronometer "Tru Beat"; this Ref has the little
special twist to offer a hacking second of a contrasting central
seconds hand, in red, providing a nice contrast and operating in
hacking mode.

Like in early dead beat watches, the part of the motion work, that operates
the second hand, was/is on a special plate between the normal seconds drive
and the automatic winding system; it needed a special pinion and a number
of other parts. I am not yet familiar with.

Furthermore, this way the movement (initially 1030/ soon 1040),
operates with 2 alternances: one with 18.000/h vibrations, the
second with 3500/h, thus generating the reduction as
a prerequisite for the "dead beating" & hacking.

Thus, here the Chronometer "Tru Beat":

Ref 6556, Cal 1040 (1956)

Classical Trio: JLC 1901, Rolex 6556, JLC E 329

Well folks, that was it, just a little share of some
specimens, excelling in their purity & appeal.

Hope you liked them a bit -
I still do.. A lot !

Best & Cheers,
hs smile

The One Thing about the 1901

I own a 1901(not as nice as yours) and I just wish it was a little bit larger. Even on my puny 6 1/2" wrist, it wears small. It's so charismatic with that tiny crown, I always enjoy winding it!

Always a joy to look at your pieces...

Among the three, I have a soft spot for the JLC E329... I love Dauphine hands and put together with those fat indexes... well, it is a great dial! Thank you for your picture Hans! Warmest, massi

Nice trio, my friend! :) [nt]
