Girard-Perregaux Traveller ww.tc - old case

Friends,

Some of you asked about the Traveller, so I thought I should share this “oldie” that I had the chance to see - Reference 49850.

White Gold case, 41mm in diameter and 11.5 mm thick. Functions; World Time Indication, Date, Small Seconds, Power Reserve.

The Gray and Ivory color dial with Pink Gold hands and applied numerals combined with the WG case. A very interesting combination.

I start to understand why Nicolas likes the old case of the Traveler ww.tc. With the polished lugs and brush sides it reminds very much of some famous divers from the 50’s and 60’s…

I still prefer the new case with all the crowns on one side, but I have to agree, the lugs on the old case is not as aggressive curved as on the new case…

Open case back showing the YG rotor. Since the watch has been kept with the plastic on the back all these years I didn’t want to remove it.

Personally I would have preferred a closed case back, maybe with a nice globe or something World Time related on the back…?

I will come back and compare the new and old Traveller ww.tc.

Best

Blomman

!here I think we can agree. The old case is nicer, but without the crown at 9 o clock...

It would be the best combination. Nice pics, my friend. Nicolas

That would be a perfect combination! :)

you picked a very classic combination with the white gold and inner grey dial. It combines a very versatile look, that can fit with any attire. I also much prefer the old case over the new Traveller, in contrast I do like the second crown as it adds some...

More symmetrical, yes...

The balance and symmetry is perfect on the old case. For me, why I don't prefer the crown at 9 is because of comfort. I wear my watches quite low on the wrist, which makes the crown at 9 to go into my wrist when I move my hand... Thank you for your input,...

yes

comfort is an issue. I haven't tried the 41mm if that's different from the 43mm. I also believe the crown has become slimmer between the old and the newer , so 49800 versus 49805 on the Chronograph. Due to size I would likely not opt for gold and stay wit...

I not a big fan of TI watches...

Personally I prefer SS or in some cases WG or PG. If I ever get the chance, I would like to do a side-by-side shot of the old vs new case. 2 mm don't sound as much, but when it comes to watches it makes a BIG difference! Best Blomman

I was searching a ww.tc ...

In SS for years. Got this one: Old styled bezel (by the existence of Caracas on it). Better pics when it returns from a short stop on my watchmaker, since it has more than eight years without activity. Cheers, Nilo ...

Congrats, Nilo! :)

Venezuela changed their clocks in 2007 to GMT-4.5: GP, after that replaced Caracas by Puerto Rico to define GMT-4. Cheers, Nilo

I missed that. Thanks for the reminder

Despite the Caracas change, when it comes to "cities that have been moved back and forth between time zones", I think Singapore wins the award: “Standard Time” in Use in Singapore Period in use Time offset from GMT Reference Meridian Name of Time (unoffic...
