Some impressions of the WW.TC Lady reference 49860 (and a real lady)

Dear enthusiasts, new for 2008 are these additions to GP´s Lady WW.TC, the popular world timer which was re-designed to fit the female wrists: The newly added variations include fully paved cases in pink or white gold, with genuine mother-of-pearl dials in different matching colours an satin fabric straps. Another variant, which already is quite in demand, is the "WW.TC Shopping" we´ve covered earlier - the "shopping zones" in 3 different variations make for a fun accessory,...

Girard-Perregaux and the Quest For Precision

Girard-Perregaux THE QUEST FOR PRECISION What makes a watch tick? And watchmakers spend days and nights on plans and developments? It´s not always the flashy aspects of horology. A watch is first and foremost an instrument to tell time. And this primary function brought sleepless nights for generations of watchmakers, engineers and scientists. The simple things can be the most challenging ones and in this, to make a watch tick, for years and years, is not the smallest. Among all ...

Some more views of GP´s new free-sprung escapement MICROVAR

It´s with pleasure to share some more impressions; the pictured unit is one of the prototypes, therefore it´s not representing the final stage and execution. Some cosmetic details are subject of change and we´ll have a closer look at the production version very shortly - it still may give an idea of how much work went into these. And while we´re on it, i´d like to grab the chance to introduce (again) the genius behind.Nicolas Dehon is a very talented watchmaker and engineer, who was...

A very short introduction of GP´s new in-house enamel-making department

Dear enthusiasts, it is an outstanding pleasure for me to share some preliminary insights and informations to what i regard one of the greatest achievements by GIRARD-PERREGAUX lately. And this time, it´s an almost quiet sensation! Dials account for much of the final appearance of a watch; it may be the most important watch component in terms of design and hence it is no surprise that GP always went a long way to ensure only the finest dials are used. But dials can be small items of artisanery and craf...

A very short introduction of GP´s new free-sprung escapement MICROVAR

Dear enthusiasts, it is with special pleasure to introduce a great new development by GIRARD-PERREGAUX: MICROVAR GP´s propietory free-sprung balance For most of GP´s history, starting in 1860´s up to now, the brand spend serious efforts on precision watchmaking. There are numerous examples to tell this part of the brand´s heritage; be it the award-winning Three Gold Bridges or the famous fast-beat Observatory Chronometers, all of them and a number of GP patented construction aimed at ...

GP´s tribute to the brand´s Chronometry history - The Vintage1966 Palladium LE

Dear enthusiasts, it is with great pleasure to present a very special limited edition combining the brand´s modernity and great past: The Vintage 1966 - PalladiumTribute To The Centenary Prize of the Observatorium Neuchatel (very first prototype of the new model)   The latest creation by Girard-Perregaux is a member of the "Vintage 1966" (or reference 49525), which pays homage to the many innovations produced by the Manufacture in the sixties. The Manufacture already had its own research ...

GP "Sapphire Bridges" - A head-turner in the making...

G'day, what does it need to create a real head-turner? Well, one may start with a lot of parts: This may give an idea the final watch requires 3 basic steps:First, the functional heart of the watch, for this one it´s the fine tourbillon carriage, is assembled and checked. At GP, each tourbillon carriage is done in four work steps; first the parts are created, then the carriage is assembled for the first time and underwents functional tests. That´s followed by complete disassembly of all it...

An overview of the WW.TC Power Reserve in steel - limited editions

Dear enthusiasts, a recent question suggested an overview, so here we go! GP´s ref. 49850 or "WW.TC Power Reserve" is a smaller companion to GP´s wildly popular WW.TC chronograph; the reduced functionality allows for a smaller case of 41mm, which is appreciated in many regions and by many fans with smaller wrists. The ref. 49850 WW.TC Power Reserve is available in different case and dial combinations, but only few are created in steel. This metal choice is for limited editions only, of which some ...

Classique Elegance in modern chronograph designs by Girard-Perregaux

Here is a watch that comes back to the forum from time to time, even if time has passed since it was introduced in 1999. It had a short life span and took its place in a vast collection of classical chronographs in the last ten years.   Girard-Perregaux 49460   The design of this watch comes from the early 60s. The first re-edition was launched as the "Chronographe Vintage 1996" ref 49300, obviously introduced in 1996. It was a 36mm chronograph, already fitted with the in...

A new old piece

G'day, probably the last new addition for this year and among the oldest; not a particularly exquisite piece comparing to GP´s all-time-greats such as the Three Gold Bridges, but somehow a bit of history. When Girard-Perregaux was bought by Otto Graef in 1928, wrist watches still weren´t that popular. It took them until 1930´s to take over the watch world, although the Graef facilities, which focussed on casemaking of mostly gold cases, already had quite a variety of mostly ladies models. So ...

(new model) The 2007 "GP Club" model is a WW.TC Power Reserve

Dear enthusiasts, it´s a special pleasure to present the last new model for 2006, which at the same time is the very first for 2007! It is a tradition for Girard-Perregaux to release a very limited edition for the Italy markets towards the end of the year. Earlier editions included the Sea Hawk II, the Laureato and the WWTC (the "GP Club" being one of the most sought after models in steel). All of them are picked up quickly, which to no small degree goes back to the beautiful execution of the editi...

The Evo Moon

Available from November 2006 at selected authorized dealers, Girard-Perregaux added a new family member in the "Laureato" line with a decidedly sportive, but elegant model. Since 2003, it is the first new model which features a non-chronograph. In addition, it combines three propietory achievements of GP´s R&D department; these are already sought after features in other models and this time, it´s the first watch to include all three: The brand new moon phase indication is coupled to the ba...

As you wish - a couple more pics of the 2006 Haute Horlogerie range.

G'day, Per your request, some weekend pictures A stunning detail of the Sapphire Bridges is the fact it can look so different; the Platinum bezel can be very close to the Titanium case and likewise "grey-ish", like the plate: The "Equation of Time", which i find a most beautiful perpetual calendar (and it´s not easy to identify being such, unless you have a close look at the sub dial). That makes it an understated beauty, despite the number of indications: The...

Substantial.... (another bunch of modem-killers ahead...)

G'day, Today I'd like to have a closer look on what i regard a great fun watch. It's bold, it's different, it's not small at all and now it comes in Rose Gold! New for 2006, the Sea Hawk Pro "Flying Tourbillon" in Rose Gold is a hefty addition for GP's "Pour BMW ORACLE RACING" line. Like it's 2005 cousin in Titanium, it is a limited edition of 32 units only and sold out: And it comes with a nice dial either: The Rose Gold casework requires a special trick to enhance stability; after all, t...

GP - The Cat's Eye - Some girl's best friends.

G'day, I thought another look at two particularly interesting new 2006 models by GP might be appreciated; this time it's ladies time The Cat's Eye range already is a very successful line, due to the unusual shape and the manufacture-made movements. New for 2006 are the "Bi-Retrograde" and a variant with baguette diamond setting, which i find both interesting and spectacular, without being obstrusive: The special twist for baguette setting is the size of the jewels, but the way they are made as wel...

The Sapphire Bridges, back view

G'day, On request in the earlier thread, here´s the back view of the second Sapphire Bridges Tourbillon. As noted before, it’s a prototype and not perfect; in that aspect, the units in production for customers will be different. Yet the very fine and elaborate hand-made finish will be the same, as well as the "black gold" coating: As you see, there´s a bit of dust, both on the back crystal and my camera. Which may proof it´s a "real" shot taken "in the wild" and not a promo picture What...

GP 2006: WORLD PREMIERE - the beautiful ref. 49525 "Vintage 1966"

Dear enthusiasts, I'm happy to share herewith the brand new ref. 49525, a new model for the "Classic Elegance" line by Girard-Perregaux. As promised, you will not only see those models and news communicated by Girard-Perregaux's official website and other internet communities here; this time my idea is to lay out the "whole story" to you even if it needs a little more time. As you see, it is a very classic round watch that is a bit of a dress watch in first degree. What you do not see is ...
