Girard Perregaux Pre Basel 2014 Collection: 1966 and Vintage 45 Blue.

Mar 23, 2014,14:40 PM

Girard Perregaux is, still, this year, surfing on their two superb cases, whi can be considered as iconic, the 1966 and the Vintage,

Who will complain? Certainly not me! The only thing I would complain about is the quality of my pictures on this two very nice watches, but I will certainly have in a close future to take better ones, as they really deserve to be well treated.

The common point between these 2? A superb blue dial, and the Cal 3300, which differs  in the 1966 with the addition of a date.

The 1966:

The Vintage 1945:

Blue... What is the reason behind the choice of this color?

It has been written, in the press release that it was a way to pay tribute to JF BAUTTE, who is the founder of the Manufacture, who had a special weakness for that color.

That is what is written, but I had the opportunity to observe the importance of Blue for GP. The evidence in one picture:

The 1966, first:

I have to say that even if I don't have any particular love for colored gold, the rose gold / blue dial combination works very well, here.

The 1966 case is very elegant and sensual, and here, is perfectly sized, with a 38 mm diameter, for a very reasonnable 8, 62 mm height.

The domed  blue dial is eyecatching.

I just regret that GP opted for a date, even if I know that most of the clients prefer this option. I have the feeling that without, it would have been even better, purer, nicer.

My poor pictures don't give justice to this Watch, and an in the real encounter will reveal all its beauty and charm:

The Vintage 45, now:

This Watch is available in two configuration: On a very nice blue alligator strap, which is my favourite, or on a bracelet, which is not bad looking, I must say.

The dial, here, has a different finish, compared to the 1966. It is vertical brushed. If you add the applied Breguet numbers, you have a winning cocktail.

As I am very picky, I would have preferred to see this Watch with the smaller case ( 33 x 32, 5 mm ) while here you have the XXL case ( 36, 20 x 35, 25 mm ).

Though, the Watch is still wearable, and very comfortable once on the wrist.

Here again, my poor pictures:

This cambered case is one of my favourite rectangular watches.

And for once, I quite like the stainless steel bracelet, nicely designed:

Pictures cannot beat the real experience. I highly suggest you to see it., which is the best way to be convinced...No... Won over!

Best,

Nicolas

Because I love the case (even if it is a bit too large) and it has more character. Moreover, good surprise, the watch doesn't have any date window! The 1966 is less surprising IMHO. Thanks for the presentation! Fx

Agree!

1966 no date would have been sublime!

Thanks for this report

This presents a tough choice for my attention this year. The blue 1966 or the Reverso Chocolat ? No date on the 1966 would have sealed it. Dean

These are making me blue....! ;)

You know I am a sucker for blue dials, Nicolas. The 1966, I tend to agree on the date window, but I don’t see it as a big problem. For me the warm tone of the pink gold makes perfect sense on a classic looking beauty like this! Love the shape of this case...

The combo rose gold blue dial is convincing, yes.

Thanks for sharing these. It always gives a better impression to see real photos than the official catalogue photos. I think both are superb. If I'm not mistaken than the 1966 blue dial is slightly brighter blue than the Palladium limited edition with a d...

You are too kind with my poor live pics.

But I asked for another photo session, and will take better pics, next time, now that I've done the correct settings on my D Lux 6. Back to the watches, yes, the same dial in a smaller case would be perfect for me, too. Nonetheless, as it is, the Vintage ...

The Vintage 1945 is....delicious! Indeed....

The Vintage 45 has a spectacular case, which can be fully appreciated only in the real.
