Some movement (mis)information...

Hi Mark,

I don't think the movement in the GP Vintage 1970 Chronograph is a GP cal. 2280, which is an ETA 2892-A2 with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module. It might be a modified Lemania 5100, which is the only movement I can think of with a central hour counter, but that's only a guess.

The GP cal. 2291 (59) is a modified and upgraded version of the AS 5008 automatic alarm movement. Basic specifications are 30.4 mm x 7.9 mm, 31 Jewels, 28800 bph. The rotor winds two springs, one for timekeeping and the other for the alarm. A number of models from various brands use this design, including the Girard Perregaux Traveler II, Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm, Baume & Mercier Capeland GMT Alarm, RGM GMT Alarm, and Tompion Alarm GMT. I don't know if they buy movements from GP Manufacture or finish NOS parts themselves: apparently A. Schild made a lot of these movements before going out of business.

Best regards,

Stephen Sugiyama
